Tracing the Past, Shaping the Future

Working collaboratively with Jagun Alliance, Zion Engagement and Planning and ReconEco, Agency in Design supported Living Lab to produce an exhibit that explores what it means to work with, and be guided by, Indigenous Knowledges by exploring how the physical environment has changed from pre-colonial times to the present day.

Following the launch of the Tracing the Past, Shaping the Future exhibition, participants were then invited to attend one of two ‘Tracing the Past, Shaping the Future lunch and learn’ sessions.

Our Approach

In two disticnt workshops, Agency in Design guided participants through an interactive Indigenous Knowledge informed process known as Visual Dialogue. Originally developed by Professor Norm Sheehan, Visual Dialogue is a straightforward practice of writing and drawing that focuses on individuals contributing their thoughts and ideas visually and then working together to identify connections and grow group patterns. There are thousands of ways to run Visual Dialogue and Agency in Design has worked with Living Lab Northern Rivers to craft a distinct approach that, at is most basic, draws together people, ideas, and community to share a way forward.
